Independent Nazarene, comprehensive, coed. Awards bachelor's and master's degrees. Founded 1902. Setting: 88-acre suburban campus. Endowment: $28 million. Research spending 2003-04: $472,971. San Diego is an area of matchless climate and spectacular scenery. Resident institutions provide ample resources in research, culture, entertainment, and recreation. They involve the University of California, San Diego; San Diego State University; University of San Diego; San Diego Symphony; San Diego Opera; Scripps Institute of Oceanography; Palomar Observatory; and Balboa Park with its world famous Zoo, Natural History Museum, Fine Arts Gallery, Old Globe Theatre, Museum of Man, Photographic Arts Museum, Aerospace Museum, Starlight Opera, and Reuben H. Fleet Space Theatre and Museum. Los Angeles is two and one-half hours driving time to the north and Mexico thirty minutes to the south. The Laguna Mountains are to the east.
